Any information that could be provided by knowledgeable M1911 collectors would be sincerely appreciated. It was pointed out to me by members of the CMP forum, that while the serial number falls within the last block of 1945 production pistols, the serial number is higher than the last known Ithaca serial number of 2,660,318. The Browning design was so great, that it has been changed little in over 100 years of production. An 'X' prefix to the serial number indicates a gun that has been re-serial numbered by ordnance, and the maker is neither identifiable or relevant. A geometric-shape proofmark, like a triangle, arrowhead or such, on the front left of triggerguard indicates an M1911A1 made by Ithaca.
